Criminal 02:51
Take a good look around at all of these buildings Where oh so many live, Hundreds of thousands of people crammed in It's a wonder how they fit. See it's a matter of fact that there's one rule for some And another for most of the rest, Surely the folk who bust a ball through life Should receive the treatment best. Not you cos you're Criminal, stealing from our well being, Whoa you're Criminal. Take advantage of our good nature, You're Criminal. Stealing from our well being, Whoa you're criminal. See I've had a job since the first day I could And I paid my fair do's to the man, The doctor and the dentist ain’t seen me in years Cos the bank don't think they can. Oh and my old mans paid tax since birth And he’s never claimed nothing back, You got the rest of these clowns living rent free on us In a something point million flat. Cos they're Criminal. Stealing from our well being. Whoa they're Criminal. Take advantage of our good nature, They're Criminal. Stealing from our well being. Whoa you're Criminal. Now let me introduce you to the wondrous field of dreams, Where all your hopes, your wants, your needs, They're sprawled out at your feet. You wont have to lift a finger no you wont have to spend a cent, And god forbid you'd ever contribute Towards your fucking rent. Here’s some more for your food, some money for your drink, And some more for your wide screen TV, Some money for your scag, your booze, and your fags, And here’s some more, its all on we. Here's some money for ya, Here's some money for ya, Here's some money for ya. Ah yea cos you're Criminal, stealing from our well being. Whoa you're Criminal. Take advantage of our good nature, You're Criminal. Stealing from our well being. Whoa you're Criminal. You're criminal. Stealing from our well being, Whoa you're Criminal. Take advantage of our good nature, You're Criminal. Stealing from our well being, Whoa you're Criminal.

Hit The Road 03:10
Out on the road again, I’m facing it alone again, It’s time to get involved in a little home-grown self development. All of my years so far I’ve spent very little time apart From the safety, security and willing of my good friends. But now its time to go. Hit the road, hit the road, hit the road, hit the road. Because it's time to go, hit the road. I've been taught well to look left, look right, listen hard and hold tight, push off when you're ready to go. Blessed with solid base to build upon, just enough head strong Chemicals for strength to say no. Oh and pack up tight, leave the fight, you're a bigger man to let it go and Feel the breeze under your feathered sleeve And push off towards the coast, 'Cos its time to go. Hit the road, don't look back, hit the road, never turn back, hit the road, hit the road. Because it's time to go. And there’s the spirit of a raging bull born of the lies I told to you, It stampedes upon my conscience every night for my crimes. As he thunders down the streets I’ve paved I see his anger softly fade As it comes to him the path I walk has changed. Wo oh oh oh Hit the road, don't look back, hit the road, never turn back, hit the road, hit the road. Because it's time to go.

Chamonix 03:10
There’s a place not far away I just found it of late, Where winter’s crisp and rich, I hear summer's just as great. Where music flows from bars before sunset just to ask, “Hows your day Salut”, are you ready to lose your way? Chamonix, I’ve heard stories don't you know. Chamonix, I’ve got places I've got to go. So Chamonix, don't get your claws in to me. Chamonix I play a show at Bar’d Up there I get jarred up, Visit amnesia where I loose my mind. woke up in a puddle then I woke up in a muddle, Sun off a mountain means it's just fine. I visit the Monkey, tell him my story, Hands me a shot says “welcome to the party”, MBC, van party, oh no here we go again. Chamonix, I’ve heard stories don't you know. Chamonix, I’ve got places I've got to go. So Chamonix, don't get your claws in to me. Chamonix. Where even seasons changing can't wipe the smile off faces here. Nestled in a pocket Nature's face is shining clear. Where lost are found and found find something new. Oh Chamonix, I’ve heard stories don't you know. Chamonix, I’ve got places I've got to go. So Chamonix, don't get your claws in to me, Chamonix Oh Chamonix, I’ve got stories don't you know. Chamonix, now I've got to go. Oh Chamonix, get your claws out of me. Oh Chamonix, You’re fine, you're fine.

East side, West side, who declares a better side, I think its time to go home. Rest your head and rest your gun, We’re gonna salvage life for everyone, Who's to say what's wrong and right, That light is day and dark is night? Put away your porcupine spines and just Smile for a while. Smile for a while, smile for a while. You and I, we’re similar in familiar ways. We’ve all cried, for the love of the same day. Close your eyes and day dream of a peaceful place. Dark skin or light skin give a fuck we’re all in this curious world together, so lets Keep it peaceful, keep it nice, keep it tidy, keep it wonderful, For the offspring. My land is your land but your lands not mine, Want my opinion you're way down on the time line. So climb up and smile for a while, Smile for a while, smile for a while. You and I, we’re similar in familiar ways. We’ve all cried, for the love of the same day. Close your eyes and day dream of a peaceful place. Black, white, yellow, or green, Remember who you are and the things that you've seen In a country where the grasses are turquoise. Cos it's been too long dwelling in these tragic times, With politicians promising us better lives, But I don't see the transition taking place, So let's get together and make a change. You and I, we’re similar in familiar ways. We’ve all cried, for the love of the same day. Close your eyes and day dream of a peaceful place. You and I now theres something so familiar Looking back at it we’re not that dis similar oh oh you and I Ooooooooooooooooooooooh

Way Change 03:12
Oh, such a long, long time ago, But hell, it still haunts me so, Pushing through the blocks of a backdrop through A gap that I never saw. I used to be oh so hard, so cruel, using women as fuel Just to get me through the lonely nights, You don't wanna play, well maybe she do, I ain't gonna start the fight. So this is how it's gonna be, this is what you want me to see, Your whole deluded world of maturity, Looking back were you ever like me at all? I have rearranged, scoping from a different point of view, Sick to the stomach with same, And now I'm heading for a way change. Takes a lot of practice, takes a lot of time, To pluck up the balls to step out of line, Climbing over boundaries set there in stone just to hold you back. Wrap your thoughts in love, keep off the Tequila, Too much of that and they'll take you to the cleaner, You don't want to end up in the bottom of a bottle Like a worm that's afraid to live. I have rearranged, scoping from a different point of view, Sick to the stomach with same, And now I'm heading for a way change. (I have changed my ways, I'm learning from the mess I made of you, Sick to the stomach with blame). I've amended the way that I behave to cater for the likes of you. Compassion and respect, I'm targeting both And I'm living for the upmost. What is this place that I've been contained in, Dark and mischievous my brain it wants to cave in, I don't like it here. Find an escape, there's got to be one, Happiest thought is saving mental freedom. I am coming back. I have rearranged, scoping from a different point of view, Sick to the stomach with same, And now I'm heading for a way change. (I have changed my ways, I'm learning from the mess I made of you, Sick to the stomach with blame, and I'm heading for a way change). I have rearranged, scoping from a different point of view, Sick to the stomach with same, And now I'm heading for a way change. (I have changed my ways, I'm learning from the mess I made of you, Sick to the stomach with blame, and I'm heading for a way change).

So you lead a desert life, I wont ask you how you do. There’s nothing for miles, no river wild but life’s streaming through. Tell me does it rain here during storms? Or is it just sand rubbing at the hands of the working man. I can see that you work hard for a life, feed yourself, feed a family. Watching over flock, one eye open constantly, Watching for the man with a plan to take what he can, Kicking up like a sand storm. No, you cant take my home, No, this is all I’ve grown. It may not be much, but its mine, and I’ll defend it with my life. No, you cant take my home. City born rug rat living in your box flat, I wont ask you how you do, You're living by your means, pulling at the seams, just scraping through. You're working for another mans dream, You're breaking your back so that he might see, But you got a plan, gonna stick it to the man And it’s playing out soon, Singing... No, you can't take my dreams, No, they were made by me. They may not be much, but they're mine and I will lead them in this life, Oh no, you can't my dreams. Tell me what did you want to be when you were a boy, Mr big man sitting in your pram throwing out your toys. Kicking up war for your greed, for your vanity, That reigns terror over good folk with families. How far will you push? How long will it take before the big pure heart of a bigger man breaks, And he stands up and the rest all follow And your evil little plan well it falls to the rubble and no! So I lead a van life, need not ask me why I do. I’m living how I choose, I’m battling through, but I’m doing what I love. And yes it rains for me just like for you, But my roots are growing stronger and branches reaching further And I try to live true. Hell its all different strokes, we trip up and we choke, Do what you want cos we’re in the same boat. I’m no less than you and I’m not any more, I’ll stand my ground if he brings the war. Crying no, you cant take me down. No, who gave you that crown? I may not be much but I am, and you can be sure that I will stand, Oh no, you wont take me down. Oh and no, you cant take our souls Who made you a god? We’ve got our lives, know right from wrong And just with that we get along, so No, you cant take our souls. No, you cant take our souls.

Stonemason 04:39
My eyelashes stick and it dampens my sight. I tilt my head to the left for a little bit of better light. Mix my tears with the sun, and lets hope a rainbow comes. She can be selfish self-centred but bearing the gift Of a heart that she’ll craft from the skin of a brick And all though that she kills you again you’ll be born With the strength of a king and a pen for a new thought. A new song. Mix my tears with the sun, and lets hope a rainbow comes. She's a stonemason, best I’ve ever seen, With the pureness of princess and the heart of a queen. She's a stonemason, the best I’ve ever seen, with the pureness of princess and the heart of a queen. She looked so pretty first thing when the morning light shone, The image of beauty with no make-up on. With her hourglass figure you loose track of time, But you know that you’ll catch up some where down the line. In no time. Mix my tears with the sun, And lets hope a rainbow comes. She's a stonemason, the best I’ve ever seen, With the pureness of princess and the heart of a queen. She's a stonemason, the best I’ve ever seen, With the pureness of princess and the heart of a queen. And I don't know where we went wrong, And I don't think she likes my songs So eat this breath this, take it all, Climb my lyric and I’ll watch you fall. Mix my tears with the sun, And lets hope a rainbow comes. 'Cos she's a stonemason, the best I’ve ever seen, With the pureness of princess, but the heart of a queen. She's a stonemason, the best I’ve ever seen, With the pureness of princess and the heart of a queen. She’s a stone, Oh, she’s a stone.

Conclusions 04:10
Oooh Oooh. Oooh Oooh. If only I had the vocab in which to release, The queries and confusion that torment my peace, I’d be living with the angels and heroes alike, along with the days my friends would also be night. I need conclusions To thoughts that I cant comprehend, Or just remove them, All these burdens and put my conscious discomfort to end. Oooh Oooh. Well I need to write it to be rid of it all, Spit on it, and burn it, and bury it in a hole. Go back to the ignorance that I stupidly left, The ignorance of childhood when I knew myself best. And I need conclusions To thoughts that I cant comprehend, Or just remove them, All these burdens and put my conscious discomfort to end. I need salvation To save me from my troubled brain, Or affirmation That this is part of growing up and I've not gone insane. Oooh Oooh Oooh Ooooh If you're so wise and your so good, Give me numerous lessons in the way that I should. Do the things I do but do them right, So we can bust a groove wealthy at the end of the night. See I'm not convinced that every word that you say, Is passed with confidence enough to swear at the end of the day. That you know what's best for me in spite of it all I give you benefit of doubt cos I’ve too far too fall. Doh Doh Doh Doh Da Da Da Ooooh Doh Doh Doh Da Da Da Ooooh I need conclusions To thoughts that I cant comprehend, Or just remove them All these burdens and put my conscious discomfort to end. I need salvation To save me from my troubled brain, Or affirmation That this is part of growing up and I've not gone insane. Oooh Oooh Oooh Ooooh

Nah ee ay ay ay, encumbered with the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay. I should have racked up, stacked up, sorted by now, Mr mischief just a memory and I'm surfing on clouds. Instead of 27 unemployed mischief’s present cant avoid, Skating the streets of London town. I keep my hope up, head up, eyes off the pavement, Keep my mind ticking, dodging complacent, enslavement. Working, pushing, maybe not enough But my source is running dry. Nah ee ay ay ay, encumbered with the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay. Nah ee ay ay ay, don't settle for the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay. I barely caught up with this morning when I woke up today, Sun's blasting through my blinds but I see life in greys, And I’m staring at the colours of a boy long ago, He's grinning back at me cos he seems to know. Well he was born of a time when the planets aligned, Blessed with a boldness not foreseen by mankind. He’s a lion, a fighter, a warrior to the end But he fails to see round the bend. Nah ee ay ay ay, encumbered with the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay. Nah ee ay ay ay, don't settle for the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay. Heave Ho! Bring in the anchor 'cos the boat's got to go and Hear me roar! Don't drag your feet 'cos the tide’s gonna go. Nah ee ay ay ay, encumbered with the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay. Nah ee ay ay ay, don't settle for the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay. Look at your self, bring up your self, When you gonna realise that you've got no body else. (Nah ee ay ay ay, encumbered with the back side of the day.) Nah ee ay ay ay. Use what you got, don't become what you’re not, Elevate your self until you reach the very top. (Nah ee ay ay ay, encumbered with the back side of the day.) Nah ee ay ay ay. Nah ee ay ay ay, don't settle for the back side of the day. Nah ee ay ay ay.

Step Back 02:50
I take an early morning stroll down on black rock sands, Kicking my heels Darjeeling steaming in my hand, I think to my self what do I really need? I need the top of the morning, the end of the day, And all that's in between going my own way, Sun punching through the clouds just to kiss upon a mountain top. Look at what we’ve done, what have we become? I’m gonna take a step back, I’m gonna lay my hat, Everywhere I go. I’m gonna take to the road, I’m gonna make it my home. And now here come the rain drops tapping on my tin top, Like my chains I watch the tide roll away. No more shutting me out, flagging me down, Wild goosing around, I think its time I took the reigns. I need to revel in times impromptu, dodge man-made career, Travel the world adventure, take my songs to virgin ears. Now hands up sheriff, I’m taking a stroll. Look at what you've done, look what I've become. I’m gonna take a step back, I’m gonna lay my hat Everywhere I go. I’m gonna take to the road, I’m gonna make it my home. I won't fight for your dream any more. I won't stagnate while you walk through the doors. I’m not wrapped round no-ones finger anymore. I’m gonna take a step back, I’m gonna lay my hat Everywhere I go. I’m gonna take to the road, I’m gonna make it my home. I’m gonna take a step back, I’m gonna lay my hat Everywhere I go. I’m gonna take to the road, I’m gonna make it my home.

Fixing 03:24
I think that you believe I owe you explanations for the moves I've made. And I believe that you are right, you must be puzzled as to why the change. It's all quite simple if you'll think like me, A boy within a man and I’m scared to be. I’m not convinced that I deserve you until I’ve found, The place where I belong and what I’m all about. I’ve been held back, I’ve been stuck in a rut, Spent far too much time blaming 'stead of following gut. And I spent years chiselling chains, Now's come the time and its shackles away. It's all quite simple if you’ll think like me, A boy within a man and I’m scared to be. I’m not convinced that I deserve you until I’ve found, The place where I belong and what I’m all about. And I’m sorry for the pain as I loose control, I’m sorry for the hurt that consume our souls, It’s not through lack of love nor love for anyone else, It's just that I’m broken and I’m fixing myself. So here’s to you, so much growing to do, Already so strong but need to stand on your own two feet. So we’ll take time, work the space, create ourselves, and then embrace What we build. It’s so damn easy if you’ll think like me, I’m just a boy and I struggle to see, Oh now where to move next when we’re chest to chest, As good as this feels for now it’s not the best. And I’m sorry for the pain as I loose control, I’m sorry for the hurt that consume our souls, It’s not through lack of love nor love for anyone else, It's just that I’m broken and I’m fixing myself. I need to spread wing, I need to soar, The path I was leading us was brittle and poor. I need to build a world for us both, Where life can be peaceful and lived to the most.

My Island 03:55
Here on my Island with nothing but space, Eyes peeled right back to view every embrace. People surround me so I’m not alone, Here I’m created and here I am home. Here I’m becoming, and here’s where my love is. Here I am learning that home’s where the heart is. And as I grow older my powers disperse, Bones once unbroken are brittle and hurt. Vivid are daydreams where I’m soaring high, Sincere beliefs now that I’d never die. And here I’m becoming, here’s where my love is. Here I am learning that home’s where the heart is. And it's childish adventures of Heroes and Kings, An endless of sunshine from summer to spring, And I feel like I’m losing something special in side, And I feel like I’m losing a piece of my mind. Here I’m becoming, and here’s where my love is. Here I am learning that home’s where the heart is. Home's where the heart is, home’s where the heart is, Yea my home, home, home’s where the heart is.

about

'Ground Up' is a collection of songs young and old, some written during my recent tour to Australia whilst driving through some of the wildest country I've ever known; others from years gone by that I never had a chance to record. Laid down together, these stories form a journey through my life so far.
